Cutaneous Plasmablastic Lymphoma in an Immunocompetent Patient with Long-Term Pyrimethamine Use for Essential Thrombocythemia: A Case Report and Literature Review

We report a case of Epstein-Barr-virus-(EBV-) positive primary cutaneous plasmablastic lymphoma in a human-immunodeficiency-virus-(HIV-) negative, immunocompetent 62-year-old female patient. We postulate that her lymphoma development is due to the longstanding use of pyrimethamine for essential thrombocythemia. This has never been described in the literature.

A rare case of Epstein–Barr virus‐related plasmacytoma involving maxillary sinus mucosa

Extramedullary plasmacytomas, Epstein-Bar virus (EBV) associated, are rarely encountered and usually have a fairly good clinical outcome. EBV+ plasmacytoma may cause a diagnostic dilemma as it phenotypically resembles an aggressive plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL). Herein, we report a unique case with maxillary EBV+ plasmacytoma from a 76-year-old immunocompetent individual.

The diagnosis is difficult to make in routine practice setting due to the morphological and immunohistochemical overlap with plasmablastic lymphoma. We report a case of plasmablastic extramedullary plasmacytoma in a 52-year-old in the mandibular ...
